Vishu Celebrations 2003

he Malayalee Community of New Jersey and Shri Poornathrayeesa Fine Arts Inc. celebrated Vishu with a cultural programme and a traditional feast (Saddhya) at the Shri Venkateshwara Temple at Bridgewater in New Jersey on the 11th of May 2003.

 

The cultural Programme was begun by an invocation sung by Lucy Kuriakose.

Mini Nampoothiri and Latha Jaipal, both students of the famed doyenne of Mohiniattam, Smt Kalyanikuttiamma, presented a Mohiniattam Cholkettu.

Bharathanatyam pieces were presented by Jayshree Mohan and Latha Jaipal depicting "Mahishasura Mardhini" and "Krishna Nee Begani Baaro".

Aneesha George entralled the audience with her scintillating Kathak performance.

Kalyani Ramani and Nirupa , on the Veena, along with Suresh Ramaswamy on the Mridangam, and Narayanan on Ginjira enchanted the audience with their skillful performance.

Srinivasan Pisharath rendered Swathi Thirunal compositions to the delight of the audience, along with Narayanan on the Ginjira and Satish Iyer on the Mridangam.

Nandakumar Nayar and his daughter Divya Nayar treated the audience to evergreen Malayalam songs.

Malini Nair and Sophie delighted the audience with their intepretation of a cinematic classical dance from Sagarasangamam.

Little Tejashree Namboothiri stole away the hearts of the audience with her rendering of a Malyalam song.

The evening culminated with a traditional Kaikottikali. The graceful movements of the dancers were in accordance with the gentle rhythmic tunes that women in Kerala have danced to for over hundreds of years.
